Book Club

A few of my girlfriends and I have decided to start a book club. We all love to read and it will give us a good excuse to have a girls night at least once a month!

We have just decided on our first book, we are going to read Eat Pray Love by Elizabeth Gilbert.

eatprayloveSince I have manages to get all my homework done for this week already, I think I am going to go get the book tomorrow and spend my afternoon reading and relaxing. :)

Quick Update

This past weekend I was able to tag along with Jon on a business trip to Dallas. It was a quick trip and I was just there last weekend, but this time I got to hang out with my sister as well. There is something so great about going home. Since it was such a quick trip, I wasn’t able to hang out with friends, but hopefully next time we make it up, we will have time to see everyone. :)

This morning I went to my practicum site for the first time. The teacher is really nice and I think I am going to be able to help out a lot in the classroom.

I have a pretty busy week, but Jon and I are looking forward to ACL this weekend! This will be the first year that the festival will be in October instead of September. We are hoping for nicer weather!

As far as how I am feeling…Tuesday was a little bit of a rough day, but I think it was mostly because I was exhausted from the weekend. Wednesday and today have been pretty good, I haven’t had to take any medicine which is great! I have been getting headaches every afternoon/evening, but nothing super bad.

Okay, now I am really going to think about getting to my lit review and comps study guide…fun, fun.

Scratch that…it felt like winter today!

I can not believe how cool it was here today! Tonight it is only about 55 degrees! I am loving it!! Too bad they are calling for 90s this weekend. :(

Tonight Jon’s sister had us over for dinner. It was great to see her family! We always have so much fun when we get together. :)

Since one of my clients has the flu, I have my afternoon free tomorrow. I was supposed to go do a school observation in the morning, but since lots of kids in the class I was going to see have been sent home with the flu, I decided it would probably be better for me to wait. That means I have the entire day off tomorrow, yay! It’s Jon’s normal weekend day so we will have the whole day together. I am hoping its still rainy and cool outside. That would be the perfect soup and grilled cheese, pj’s and a movie day.

Since I have the whole day off and I am sure I will be looking for ways to procrastinate on my paper writing, I will try to post some belly pictures. I think we may have missed week 12, but I need to check. I’ll either post weeks 12-14 or 13-14 tomorrow.

It Feels Like Fall

We had tons of rain last night and with that came a cold front!

I know a lot of you all who live just a few hours north of us in Dallas got it as well, but you have to understand here in Austin, the cold front rarely makes it to us. Usually it stops somewhere around Waco. It is normal for it to be a good 10 degrees warmer here than Dallas, so imagine how wonderful it is that we got rain (lots of rain) and nice cool crisp air!

I didn’t have to work today and my class tonight got cancelled because my professor and her whole family have the H1N1 flu. Speaking of which, I found out today that 2 of my classmates have it and 1 of my clients has it right now as well. Wonderful. I am just hoping it will skip me!!

Tonight Jon and I were good little home owners and went to our neighborhood watch meeting. It was outside, which was great. We had to wear jackets! In our neighborhood we have a couple of pass-through streets that no houses face so they can be easily blocked off making a great place for everyone to come together. At tonight's meeting we talked about National Night Out, which for us is coming up on October 6th. I am so excited, we are having a cook out and it will be such a great time to meet some more of our neighbors. We also talked about Halloween. We are going to have another neighborhood party that weekend, which should be lots of fun.

Okay, I’m off to eat dinner. Jon and I actually made a menu for this week and so far its been great not having to worry about what’s for dinner (not that I really had to worry before since I rarely never cook). :)

Busy Week and Full Weekend

It’s the end of a pretty busy week and I have a jammed packed weekend ahead of me. The only think that is not so good, is that I haven’t felt very well all week. I tried to stop taking my Zofran, but it was a good idea. :( Thankfully my Dr. gave me a refill for my prescription so I have plenty to last me through the weekend and next week.

Tomorrow I am heading down to San Antonio for a conference with some of the girls I work with. The conference we are going to is called Motivating Children with Autism to Speak; Incorporating ABA to Build Functional Communication. It should be pretty interesting and helpful. The only downside is check in begins at 7:30, 90 minutes away from where we are. We are all meeting up and leaving by 6 am…yuck! We probably won’t be home until late tomorrow night…I am going to be so exhausted.

Saturday I am flying to Dallas. I am going to spend the day with my mom shopping and then going out to eat with my parents. Sunday I get to go to this little guy’s baptism and then I am heading home.

It’s going to be a whorl wind 3 days, but I am hoping I feel better and have fun!

Finally a Productive Day

  • House clean…check
  • Laundry done…check
  • Exam study guide made…check
  • Research homework done…check
  • Dishes done…check
  • Dog walked…check

I am so glad I was able to get so much done today. It was the perfect day to hang around the house and be productive. It rained pretty much all day so it was nice to stay in.

Tomorrow I have to go to a school meeting and then I think I may do a little shopping. This weather has made me want to start decorating for fall! :)

2nd Trimester!

I have officially entered my second trimester!! Yay!! I had a doctor’s appointment on Tuesday that went really well. I got to hear a strong heart beat again (158bpm). My nurse said she thinks its a girl. She did add that she has been doing this for 12 years and for 11 years she was dead on every time, then this year she has be wrong every time. So I guess who knows! :)

My doctor gave me a prescription for Zofran since I am still a little on the sick side. I couldn’t stand the Phenergran anymore, it just knocked me out and left me feeling groggy all day. My doctor was worried that the Zofran would be expensive (she said to expect like $15 per pill, yikes). Lucky for me, when Jon picked up the prescription we got the whole thing for $5. I have only had to take 1 pill in the mornings and it keeps me feeling great most of the day! Can I just say Zofran is now my best friend! I think it helps that I am towards the end of the whole sickness period, but I am so glad I have this to make the next few weeks easier!

What stinks is that now that I am feeling better, Jon is going to be out of town all weekend and I have to spend the weekend on school work. Ugh.

-Lauren-

Oh, I completely forgot, I finally got my hair cut and highlighted today! Oh my goodness, it had been way too long! I had her cut 3.5 inches off and its still long. I love the length and the color! :) I’ll have to post some pictures this weekend.

A Long Weekend

It was great to have a 3 day weekend. Jon only had a remote job early Saturday morning, so we were able to spend most of the weekend together again.

We didn’t do too much this weekend. Friday night we took Hiro out to Auditorium Shores and picked up dinner at El Chilito. Saturday we slept in, ran errands, cleaned the house and had dinner at Central Market. When we came home I made some delicious brownies!

On Sunday the weather was finally under 100 degrees here (literally for the first time in about 70 days!), so Jon took Hiro out to play and I enjoyed some reading outside on a blanket. Sunday night we had a good friend over and went out to dessert at Amy’s Ice Cream, yum!

I had to do some school work this weekend as well…yuck! Since I am graduating in December, I have to take comprehensive exams in October. It will be 4 essay type questions over my all my grad school classes. I got the study guide for the 4 questions last week, so I decided I would make a study guide for 1 question every weekend. That should take me until the end of September and then I have most of October to study everything I type up. October 30th, I get to spend all day taking the test.

This is what the desk is going to be looking like for the next 2 months.

Getting Lost in a Book

I read this on a friends facebook status yesterday, and I smiled. I absolutely LOVE getting lost in a book. I have read just about every night before bed for as long as I remember.

I remember my parent’s reading to me before bed every night and that just become the routine. I remember getting lost in the Chronicles are Narnia with my Dad, and Baby Island with my Mom, as well as so many other great stories. I am so thankful they started such a great habit with me.

Since we have been married, Jon has also picked up this reading before bed routine and I know it is something we will carry on with our children.

Over the last 25 years I have read some wonderful books, but I want to talk about the ones I have gotten totally lost in. You know, when you realize you have been reading for hours longer than you planned. When you have to be forced to put down a book. When you’re not reading the book, you are just thinking about the next time you can pick it up again. There have been a few books in the last few years, that I have gotten totally lost in…

The Twilight Series by Stephanie Meyer (I know such a teen book, but I still love them!)

Middlesex by Jeffrey Eugenides

Mark of the Lion Trilogy by Francine Rivers

Redeeming Love by Francine Rivers

The Help by Kathryn Stockett

I Know This Much is True by Wally Lamb

Those are just a handful of the books I have gotten lost in during the past few years.

Your turn, if you’re a reader, what books have you gotten lost  in lately? I am also looking for a new story to become a part of. :)

My Last First Day of School

Last night I had my last first day of school forever (well unless I decide to get my doctorate degree, HA!). Its great to be so close to graduation! My only regular class is a research class, which shouldn’t be too bad. I am also taking a practicum class, where I have to volunteer my time to do some ABA in the public schools. It should be a good experience, I am just hoping I get into a good school with a knowledgeable teacher.

Other than school starting, it has been a pretty typical week around here. I was going to try to make it up to Plano this weekend for Labor Day, but I am still not feeling too great, so I think I am going to pass. I think I may spend some time this weekend shopping for some new clothes…mine are getting on the tight side! :)

I know I am so behind on posting belly pictures, but we have been taking them, so I will eventually get around to plugging my camera in and downloading them…I am so lazy!
