Five Things Friday

  • Today, I am headed up to Plano…alone! I am going to help host a baby shower for my best friend. I am so excited for her! I’m also going to get to spend some time with my sister which will be great!
  • That means, it’s Jon’s first weekend alone with both kids. He has done it a couple of times with just Aedan, but this will be my first weekend away since having Adelaide. After all the traveling he did for work these past few months (not to mention the second round of traveling that he will be doing this fall!), I think I have earned a weekend away!
  • I bought Aedan a pair of goggles this week. I was positive he would not want to wear them, but he kept them on through his whole swimming lesson Wednesday morning. Then when we went to the pool again later that day (we are pool lovers this summer!), he wanted to wear them again! I need to get a picture, because him in goggles and his puddle jumper is just cute, plus it will be a good picture to pull out when he brings his girlfriend to meet us. :)
  • I hosted a busy bag swap with my moms group yesterday. It was really fun. We all made a set of one activity and then swapped so we all took home 10 different activity bags. I haven’t even had a chance to look through everything we got, but I know Aedan will love it! I made a color matching game with paint swatches and clothespins. It was super easy!
  • Phone pictures from the week…

What Aedan felt like we needed to bring home from our park play date last week. I asked him where Adelaide should sit and he told me I should just carry her to the car. :)20130617_121133

I’m off to go get things loaded in the car so I can head off soon!

Father’s Day Weekend

We had a really nice Father’s day weekend.

Friday, Jon had to go into the office, so he got home right at dinner time. Usually we run some errands and go out to eat on Friday nights, but we decided to just stay in. It was perfect.

I spent the whole day cleaning the house…which makes it sound like I must have cleaned every inch of the place, but really that is just how long it takes to clean while entertaining a 3 year old and a 7 month old!

Jon did stop by and pick up chips and queso to go with our leftover tacos. After we put the kids to bed, we just hung out and watched a few episodes of Breaking Bad. We are on season 4 now and really liking it!

On Saturday, we relaxed around the house for the morning and then I headed to the grocery store alone (funny how something like going to the grocery store alone is a bonus now!) :) Anyway, I picked up stuff for the rest of the weekend and then headed home.

Saturday afternoon, I did a webinar with a friend of mine. I took my board exam almost 3 years ago and every 3 years I have to get a total of 36 continuing education hours. After Saturday’s webinar, I am only short 3 hours, so I am almost there!

Saturday night we had some good friends over and I tried some new recipes. Everything turned out pretty good. We had fun visiting and Aedan had a blast entertaining everyone. We found out they are expecting a baby in November and we are SO excited for them!!

On Sunday we decided to venture out for breakfast to celebrate Father’s Day. We used to go out to breakfast every Saturday before having Aedan. Then when it was just him, we still went out a couple of Saturday’s a month. After having Adelaide, we really haven’t been out to breakfast much. It went pretty well, so maybe we will start up the routine again. It’s always nice to come home after a big breakfast to a clean kitchen. We put Adelaide down for a nap and a movie on for Aedan and just relaxed.

Jon had a soccer game that afternoon and when he got back we had an early dinner and headed to the pool. We have tried to go to the pool a couple of times before dinner, but then it always seems like such a rush when we get home. It worked out great to go after dinner. I cleaned up the kitchen while Jon did bath time and then we put two worn out kids to bed!

Our kids are so blessed to have such a wonderful father! We love him so much!!

A Little Comparison

As I edit the pictures I take of Adelaide, a lot of them remind me of similar ones I have of Aedan as a baby. It is so fun to compare them…

They look pretty different in these two pictures, but a few of their baby pictures look pretty similar. They look about the same size in these two, but Aedan was only 6 months and Adelaide is a mouth in a half older. :)

Good Camera Pictures

I got motivated to get my good camera out the other day so I could test out editing on the new computer. It is awesome! Such a big difference editing on a desktop vs. a laptop!

So picture time…I tried to get some good ones of Aedan, but he did not want to have his picture taken and kept running away. Ha! At least I have one still subject for a little while longer!

She loves strawberries!!

Life Lately…

We got our new computer in yesterday…I LOVE it! It has been a long time since I have had a desktop computer and this one is pretty cool.

20130612_095139

It’s a Dell XPS and is an all in one desktop. It is like a giant tablet that we can pick up and move from place to place, or we can set it in the stand and use the wireless key board and mouse. It’s not going to live on our island forever…I ordered a desk from World Market, but it’s not in yet. Hopefully next week, I will be able to show some good pictures of it all set up on the new desk.

Last night I went to a mom’s night out with some of girls in my moms group. We had a blast! A couple of weeks ago, one of my friends posted a link to this article on Facebook. It made me laugh because it is so true! So I guess, we took it to 4th base at moms night out this week!! I really feel like we are getting settled here and growing some roots. I’ve made some great friends and hope that we just continue to get closer as our kids grow up together!

And of course no post is complete without a picture of the kids…

She was super happy all day today. She got lugged around to swimming lessons and playgroup and even had to sit outside in the heat while her brother drove his jeep around the backyard. Nothing but smiles. :)

Swimming Lessons

This morning Aedan had his first swimming lesson. I can’t believe he is old enough for swimming lessons on his own! I remember being in swimming lessons around his age. I was a little nervous about how he would do, but he did great. It’s semi private lessons so only 2 other kids and the instructor. The instructor seems great and I am excited to see what he will learn this summer!

At point they were talking about safety rules and Amy (the instructor) asked what they should do if it was thundering and lightening. With out missing a beat Aedan shouted out his answer…”go sleep in mommy’s bed”. Ha! I though it was hilarious and it is true. Up until probably 6 months ago, thunder storms never even woke him up at night. Even the ones I was sure would have woken him up. But lately he seems to be tuned into the thunder and as soon as he hears it, he is standing next to our bed. Usually we just let him lay with us until the loudest stuff has past. A few times, we have all fallen back asleep before that happens. :)

Phone Pictures

I thought we would have a slower paced, less busy schedule this summer, but if every week is like this one…then not so much! I have a few posts in the works but I haven’t been able to sit down and finish them/add pictures. So here is a little recap of our week via phone pictures.

Aedan loves to either play like someone else is stuck and he has to be the rescuer, or that he is stuck and needs to be rescued. He isn’t the least but dramatic. ;) At least he has shorts on!

20130527_131611

This one is obsessed with my phone already. Anytime I have it laying on the floor near her, she immediately starts reaching for it.

20130605_152513

Adelaide has always loved watching Aedan play. I catch her watching him all the time and love it!

20130606_075424

I’ve been working on losing the extra baby weight I’ve been carrying around. I am officially down 10 lbs. and back down to what I weighed before getting pregnant with Adelaide. My next goal is to get rid of the extra 5 lbs. I am still carrying around from being pregnant with Aedan. Then if I am really honest, I‘d like to lose another 5 lbs. on top of that and get back to what I weighed when we got married. So I’ve got another 10 to go, hopefully by the end of the summer…as I sit here and eat a chocolate chip cookie, ha!

Summer!

Today starts the first week of summer for us!

Thursday was Aedan’s last day of school. I took his picture on the front porch to compare with his first day…

IMG_0773

20130530_082924

I was looking forward to a fun weekend, but Saturday Aedan had some sort of stomach bug. He could basically only keep water down. It was no fun! I think I have washed just about every blanket and towel in the house now. Luckily it seemed to be a 12 hour thing because by 11 pm Saturday night he was back to himself and HUNGRY! Sunday, we took it easy just in case, but he is totally back to normal now, and it doesn’t look like Adelaide is going to get it.

This morning Aedan and I did a big grocery trip while Adelaide took her morning nap (I have mentioned that it is so nice that Jon works from home so I can do things like this!), then when she woke up, we headed to the library to get some new books for the week. I was really good about taking Aedan to the library all the time before school started, but then we just got too busy. I am hoping this summer we can make it out there at least every other week. This is Aedan’s current favorite book. Today we rechecked it for the 3rd time…I may need to buy this one. :)

Before nap time, Aedan and I made a double batch of chocolate chip cookies. I am taking a meal over to a mom in my mom’s group, and since I was going to make some for her, I figured I make a double batch since my family is coming in town this weekend. Whenever, I make a double batch, I bake a dozen for us to have and then I roll the rest into balls and freeze them. Then we can have fresh cookies whenever we want.
