Happy Birthday Aedan!

How can my baby boy be 5 years old! It has gone by so fast!

 

Aedan you have grown up into such an awesome little boy! Here is what you are up to theses days…

• You no long take naps, although you have rest time in your room every day for 1.5 hours. Usually you just play but about once a week you fall asleep, usually on the floor next to your Legos.
• You wake up around 7:30 am and go to bed around 7:30 pm. I know we are in for a big adjustment around here when you start Kindergarten in the fall. We will probably have to be leaving for school at 7:20!
• You have become a pretty good eater (or maybe you were just so picky for so long, and now you are eating normally which seems great to us). You don’t like chicken, but will eat just about any other meat. You don’t like your veggies cooked but will eat lots of raw ones. You like fruits and of course sweets, but overall you eat pretty healthy.
• You love to play with Legos, transformers, army men and blocks. We have a huge set of wooden blocks and sometimes you build huge cities and other times the blocks are different things like Vikings or soldiers fighting big battles.
• Recently Daddy taught you how to play your first computer game. You play a few games on the iPad, but this one is all on the computer and pretty complicated. You love it and have gotten pretty good.
• You are very helpful and truly a rule follower. For the most part you are very compliant and don’t get in trouble very often. At school, your teacher loves you and tells me that you are so sweet and such a good listener.
• You are very good with Adelaide. Now that she is talking a lot more, you two play together more often. You are really great at watching out for her and protecting her. Sometimes you boss her around a little but she needs that every now and then. Ha!
• You prefer to stay at home rather than go just about anywhere. Since Daddy works from home, I let you stay home and play as much as I can. You do really well. I just leave you a snack out and give you some ideas of activities to do.
• You love to wrestle with Daddy and you guys are always pretending to be some kind of soldier or fighter and using various weapons to fight the bad guys.
• You and Hiro are best buds. You are the first person he greets in the morning and I usually have to make him leave your room at bedtime. You are in charge of letting him out every morning and feeding him breakfast (both of which you do now without anyone reminding you).
• You get ready all on your own. On school mornings I usually lay out clothes for you, but you can also pick out your own stuff.
• You and I like to cuddle on the couch and watch shows while Adelaide finishes her nap. I know these moments are numbered so I cherish them all.  You also love for me to scratch your back before you fall asleep every night.

Aedan you are such a kind and considerate little boy. You are always very aware of how everyone else is feeling and try your best to make people feel happy. It has been such a privilege and a blessing to watch you grow these last 5 years. I am so proud of the person you are becoming. Your Daddy and I love you so much. We could not imagine our family or lives without you in it.

Life Lately

Its been awhile…life just seems to be moving faster and faster.

My mom found this huge box of wooden blocks at a garage sale. They are so fun to play with. Aedan built this whole city on his own one afternoon!

Jon celebrated his 34th birthday on 2/18. That weekend we headed to his favorite place, the Greenbelt for some hiking. It has been a few years since the water has been this good there. In fact these places were completely dry a couple of years ago. We had a great time!

This week the weather has been pretty gloomy so we have been doing a lot inside. Adelaide loves to color and paint!

We are gearing up to celebrate Aedan’s 5th birthday! How is the even possible. We are celebrating with my family this next weekend and then with his (and our) friends the following weekend. Hear to hoping the weather gets better!

Lately

We had a great Valentines weekend. Saturday, the weather was gorgeous and we all enjoyed the morning outside.

Jon and the kids brought me some beautiful flowers, my favorite candy and favorite beer. It was a great day!

Sunday, Aedan and I went to a birthday party. It was his first time bowling and he had a lot of fun! I am sure we will be back soon.

A couple of weeks ago, I saw this cute loft bed on our neighborhood garage sale site. We had been talking about getting Aedan a twin bed since his room is so small. We wanted to give him more room to play so this seemed like the perfect option.

He LOVES it and it worked perfectly for his room. We were able to organize all the Legos underneath the bed, which gives him plenty of room to play.

Since we moved all the Legos out of the playroom, there is so much more room to play and it is much easier to keep clean!

We also got a new couch, but I feel like that needs its own post so hopefully I can get that up soon!

Phone Pictures

It has been awhile since I have just put up phone pictures. Here is what has been going on lately…

We have had a couple of really beautiful days mixed in with lots of rainy days. When the weather is nice, we always try to get out and enjoy it!

Adelaide always wants to ride in Aedan’s jeep. Believe it or not, he does not always want to drive her around. Ha! I switched it to slow and tried to teach her how to drive. She is a little too short still, but I am guessing by summer she will have it down. I’m sure we will have two jeeps riding around the yard next fall!

We also ditched the baby swing. Adelaide does really well swinging on the normal swing. She thinks she is big stuff.

On those cold rainy days, this is what our couch usually looks like in the late afternoon.

We are all about Legos around here. This was an epic battle that Jon and Aedan set up.

Aedan still loved to dress up as all kinds of things. I think he was a Viking here or maybe a solider.

And if I take a pictures of Aedan…I have to take a picture of Adelaide (she insists on it!).

This is the face I got when I asked her to smile. Ha! I think she looks a little crazy, which seems pretty accurate most days!

Visiting Nenna & Pop

The weekend before last, we headed up to the Dallas area to visit my parents. It had been awhile since we had been up there and Aedan had been begging to go.

He kept saying he really want to go stay at the Nenna and Pop’s big house (they have my grandparents old house here in town, which Aedan calls the little house). When I would ask him why he wanted to go so badly, he told me it was because he wanted to play with the toys my mom had brought from the little house to the big house. The same ones he is able to play with at the little house with only a 20 minute drive. Ha!

Anyway, we headed up Friday morning and made it by lunch time. That afternoon, Aedan and I went to visit my mom’s school. I told Aedan she teaches big kids (middle school). He said he wants to be in her class when he gets bigger.

We had such a fun weekend. We rode the DART, played at the park a bunch, and did a lot of hanging out. The kids had so much fun and Aedan is already asking when we are going back.

All About Daddy

Adelaide is going through a serious “daddy is my favorite” phase. She has always been attached to him, but lately…it is out of control!

I think it started the week of Christmas. She was pretty sick with RSV and would not nap in her bed. She was so tired and miserable so Jon started rocking her to sleep. She loves to be rocked. He rocked her to sleep and let her sleep on him for 3 or 4 days straight of naps. Once she was feeling better, she went back to sleeping in her own bed, but decided that daddy was a clear favorite.

Now, when I try to go get her up in the morning or after nap, she immediately tells me “no, you go” “want daddy”. So that’s fun.

Last week, Jon went up to work before the kids woke up one morning. So, obviously, I had to get her out of bed. She was so mad. The whole time I was taking off her sleep sack and changing her diaper, she was thrashing around and screaming. Let me tell you, it was a great way to start the day. Ha!

She was so mad that she went and sat by the front door, crying for daddy for a good 10 minutes.

It’s funny, I remember Aedan going through a similar phase. Except he was all about mommy. One day I was leaving for a friends baby shower and Aedan was screaming as I walked out the door. Jon said he opened the door after I left to see what Aedan would do, and he proceeded to run down the driveway calling me. He probably would have run down the street, but Jon stopped him.

Adelaide is lucky Jon works from home and is usually around to give her random hugs and get her out of bed most of the time…

Happy New Year!

I am so happy to say that we are starting off 2015 with us all feeling well! I really think one of us was sick just about every.single.day in December!

Everyone was feeling better at the beginning of last week but the weather has been so bad lately. Just dark, gloomy and cold. The sun finally came out for the weekend, so we took advantage of it! We got outside and played at one of our favorite parks and then went to lunch on Sunday morning. It was such a fun day!

Today it was back to our normal schedule. Jon has been off for basically the past 2 weeks so it was a little hard to get up at the regular time this morning. Even the kids have been sleeping at least 30 minutes later everyday. But, it is nice to get back into our routine. We have one more week until the kids go back to school, but we have a lot planned so it is going to go fast!
