Merry Christmas

Well our Christmas week didn’t go exactly as planned. Adelaide woke up sick on Monday and was sick all week. Turns out she had RSV. She is much better now, but Aedan has a mild version so once again, we are stuck at home.

We have this cute Christmas count down wall hanger and when I look at it, all I can see is how many days in December one of us was sick. We are ready for the new year! Here’s to a healthy 2015!

Santa still came despite Adelaide being sick. The kids we so fun to watch Christmas morning! I made it a point to take a lot of video Christmas morning, so I don’t have too many pictures to share.

Christmas afternoon, my parents and sister braved the germs and came over for more presents and dinner. I was going to be so bummed if they weren’t able to come so it was nice to have them over. We had so much fun visiting. I wish they all lived in town!

On Friday, Adelaide was still running a fever so she and Jon had to skip the family get together with my side of the family. Aedan and I were able to go and it was so great to see everyone.

Aedan started feeling bad on Saturday so once again we have just been hanging out at home. It has given us lots of time to play with new Christmas toys, reorganize the playroom (so there is actually room to play with the new toys), and take down Christmas decorations.

Christmas Card Carousel

I’ve been a little MIA lately…we all got sick last week. Aedan was first, then me, then Jon and lastly Adelaide. We were stuck at home for 10 days! Oh.my.gosh, longest week ever! We are all well now just in time to enjoy the last week before Christmas break!!

I’ve participated in Faith’s Christmas Card Carousel since 2009! You can go here for last year’s card and the links to the past years.

Here is our card this year…might be my favorite yet!

I’m hoping to take some pictures of our Christmas décor and get a post up later this week. Tomorrow the kids have a Christmas pageant at school. Aedan is Joseph! I can’t wait to see both up them up on stage. Hopefully I’ll have some good pictures and videos to share!

Thanksgiving Week

We had such a great Thanksgiving week.

Monday, I got a babysitter for the kids, and my mom and I did some shopping. We had a great time hanging out and enjoyed a nice lunch too. I wish she lived in town all the time so we could do these little dates more often!

On Tuesday, the kids and I met my parents at the Thinkery (our local children’s museum). We had not been since it opened at its new location. It was a fun morning! We had lunch and then spent the afternoon up at my parents house.

You can’t tell, but Aedan is way up at the top. He had a blast climbing all over this play set. He probably would have stayed all day!

On Wednesday, I needed a day at home. We met some friends at the park to enjoy the gorgeous weather and other than that, we just relaxed at home.

Thursday, Jon did the Turkey Trot with his sister and friends. My sister came over and we just hung around the house until it was time to head to my cousin’s house for Thanksgiving dinner.  photo 1

Friday, the only Black Friday shopping I did was online. We got all our Christmas stuff out and decorated the house.  I bought a new Christmas tree and ornaments after Christmas last year so it was fun to get everything out and set up. I am pretty happy with out tree this year (pictures coming soon!).

Family Pictures

I think our pictures turned out really well this year! My favorites are on our Christmas cards so I won’t share those yet, but here are a few that I also love!

How precious is this one! I think I am going to get it printed on a canvas. So sweet.

We tried to get a picture of me and both kids, but Adelaide wanted nothing to do with sitting in my lap. For Jon, she was all happy, for me, not so much. Sigh.

Phone Pictures

Adelaide decided to help herself to Fritos for dinner one night.

Aedan wrapped himself up in balloons…just because.

The kids got new shoes this past week, and Adelaide decided she loved her so much, she wanted to only wear shoes and no clothes. It was super cold outside too. Girlfriend refused to put clothes back on until after bath time that night.

The kids’ school had a Thanksgiving lunch on Thursday. I can’t believe how big Adelaide seems!

Adelaide also found her sweet tooth. She has never really been a big fan of sweets until this lunch. Ha!

We are looking forward to a fun weekend and a fun Thanksgiving week!

Halloween Weekend Recap

We had a fun Halloween weekend!

Friday morning the kids and I met my parents at Zilker park. We rode the little train and played at the playground. It was a really fun morning!

My parents needed to take my grandmother to some doctor appointments that day, so the kids and I took their dog, Tootsie, home with us. Both kids love her so they were pretty excited! This was my view during nap/rest time. Ha!

20141031_133946

That evening, my parents came over for dinner and then we went off to trick-or-treat! Aedan decided last minute that he had to be Iron Man. Luckily I had a friend come to the rescue with the perfect costume for us to borrow. He insisted on bring his knight shield with him (which was his original costume!).  Adelaide was a garden gnome who refused to wear her hat, but she looked pretty cute anyway.

20141031_184538

We walked to a decent number of houses before coming back and sitting with our neighbors to pass out candy to the later crowd.

Once the kids were down for the night we broke out a game of Cards Against Humanity with my parents. Jon ordered it a while ago, but we hadn’t had a chance to play it yet. Oh my gosh, probably the funniest game ever. Definitely not appropriate, but very fun!

On Saturday my sister came up and we had a little family celebration for Adelaide’s birthday. Last year, we did a big birthday with both sides of the family and lots of friends. It was fun, but we just didn’t get to visit with everyone. This year we split it up and spent time with each side of the family on different weekends and then we had a friends party this past weekend. I think it is going to be our plan going forward with both kids birthdays.

Anyway, we had a nice dinner with my parents, sister and grandmothers. The kids had a blast playing with all the toys my parents have and opening Adelaide’s new gifts.

Sunday we spent some more time with my sister and just relaxed the rest of the day.

Family Pictures

We are actually scheduled to have our family pictures taken tomorrow and I can’t wait!

But a few weeks ago, my parents and sister were in town and we were able to squeeze in a picture session with all of us. They turned out so well! Aedan did great, and Adelaide did pretty well too. I think the pictures of the kids with my parents are my favorites!

2 Years Old–Adelaide

I can’t believe you are already two! Sometimes it feels like you were just a baby yesterday. I have to say, I love having a toddler over a baby. I love knowing you and your personality so well now.

photo (11)

Adelaide, here is what you have been up to lately…

  • You weigh 23 lbs. (15%) and are 32 in. (10%), which is small but right on the growth curve you have always been on.
  • You wake up around 7:30 every morning, nap from 1-3:30/4 and go to bed at 7:30 every night. A few weeks ago, Daddy had to be up at work before you woke up and was gone until after you were asleep. He started going in and picking you up to rock you when he got home because he missed you. In the mornings you would tell me about it…”Daddy, night night” while pointing at the rocking chair. You loved it and would love to be rocked to sleep by Daddy all the time.
  • You love milk. You would seriously drink a gallon a day if we let you. You also love gold fish. You ask for “pish” at every meal. Speaking of meals, you are probably the worst eater ever. I am not sure how you are growing. You like a few things, but you will not touch any meat and only will take a bite or two of raw veggies. You basically take a bite or two at every meal and that is it. I am hoping you get better eventually.
  • You love to play with your baby dolls. You push them in the stroller, put them night night, feed them bottles and change their diapers. It is so cute to watch.
  • You love to play outside. You favorites include swinging, climbing up the slide (I know!), trying to convince Aedan to drive you in his jeep, and blowing bubbles.
  • You love watching Elmo, Thomas or Baby Signing Time.
  • You carry around a num num just like Aedan. I thought I was doing well by having two the same color for you, so we could have a back up. Fail. Now you just prefer to carry around both. You have gotten good at only taking one out of the house and at school you put your num num in your back pack at the beginning of the day on your own.
  • Speaking of school, you are doing really well. You seem to have a good day every time you go. You don’t cry at all when I drop you off.
  • You love to smile at everyone. Including when you do something you know you are not supposed to do. You just tilt your head to the side and flash a cute smile. Ha!
  • You have been talking more and more lately. Lots of two word combinations and lots of new words all the time. You are still hard to understand at times but it is so cute to hear you talk to us about everything. I know it is just a matter of time before you are talking as much as Aedan and when that day comes, I don’t think anyone else will get a word in around here!

Adelaide you are such a fun little girl. You are smart, funny, stubborn and so cute! We just love you to pieces. Love, Mommy

Happy 2nd Birthday Adelaide!!

You are such a precious part of our family. We just could not imagine life without you. You are sweet, sassy, joyful and so fun! I just know you are going to do big things with your life. Love you always and forever baby girl!

Our Morning Routine–Adelaide

An alternate title could be “How to Dress a Greased Piglet”

So Adelaide is almost two now (how crazy is that?!?) and she is so strong willed. I thought Aedan was strong willed. I was wrong.

She also thinks she can dress herself.

She can’t yet.

Let me tell you how some of our mornings go…

After breakfast, I send Aedan off to brush his teeth. For the most part he is really good about getting ready in the morning and can do almost everything on his own.

Then I take a deep breath and try to grab Adelaide. Usually she takes off running and loves to head for the corner between her crib and the wall. She climbs up on the outside of her crib and just laughs like we have played the best game in the world.

I start picking out her clothes and laying them on the floor. I attempt to tell her to come get dressed, but all I ever get is “no, no, no, no”. I go to the corner and pick up Adelaide, who immediately goes limp and throws her arms up in the air. You know, to make the picking up as difficult as possible.

I lay her down next to the pile of clothes and change her diaper. Thankfully she is pretty good about getting her diaper changes. Although she always wants to help me wipe…seriously, this kid.

Diaper is changed and now the hard part comes. She wants to put her own shorts on. Which would be fine, but she doesn’t want me to help. And she always gets both legs in one hole and then gets even more frustrated. Oh and we have to leave for school in 10 minutes, so there is that.

As she fights me, I put one leg in her shorts. Then as I am trying to stick her other kicking leg in the shorts, she kicks just right so the first leg comes out.

We repeat this 3-4 times.

I finally get her shorts on and I sit her up to put her shirt on. The problem is, she thinks the shirt should go on her feet too. So she lays back down and sticks her feet in the shirt.

I finally get the shirt on and her arms through the right holes. She is over helpful and usually ends up with an arm in the neck hole. That of course is my fault and she is mad at me about it.

Okay, shirt and short on. She lets me put her socks on only because she loves to go bye bye and she knows we are getting close. After her socks are on, she jumps up and takes off. I bribe her into the bathroom to do her hair by telling her she can brush her teeth. The girl loves two things…brushing teeth and washing hands. I guess there are worse things to love!

She “brushes” her teeth while I do her hair. As soon as I am done she promptly tries to pull the clip or rubber band out.

I fix her hair and rush her out of the bathroom before she can mess it up again.

We go to put on shoes. She wants to put on Aedan’s shoes, then when that doesn’t work, she wants to wear her pool shoes. I am the worst mom ever, because I nicks that as well. I finally get the correct shoes on and declare it’s time to leave.

We head to the car. Adelaide wants to take .5 million things with us. You know because I don’t have enough stuff to carry between two kids.

Then she wants to climb in the car.

Once she is in the car, she wants to sit in Aedan’s seat.

Since that doesn’t happen, she wants to climb into her own seat. She needs help. She doesn’t want help. It is hard being two.

I help her into her seat, which makes her so mad. She arches her back making it difficult impossible to buckle her. I finally get her arms through the straps and she knows I have won. She calms down and sits nicely while I buckle her up and close the door.

Piece of cake

Pumpkin Patch

Last Friday, I took the kids to Sweet Berry Farm. I have been wanted to check out this pumpkin patch for the past couple of years, but I haven’t been brave enough to make the hour drive to get out there. I decided this was the last year I’d be able to take Aedan on a weekday since he will start kinder next year (how is the possible?!?) so we went for it.

We met up with some friends and had a GREAT time! The place is so fun! A little pricy, but so worth it for a once a year thing.

20141017_10490520141017_105227

Aedan loved the bouncy area.

20141017_110541

20141017_110736

The kids rode the little train, but neither loved it. I think they were sitting too close to the tractor and it was too loud. Both got off crying. Ha!

Then we did the hay ride which they liked better (Adelaide was getting pretty tired by this point).

20141017_115428

After the hay ride, we picked up some pumpkin ice cream. It was really good!

20141017_120447

We also got to feed some goats and do a lot of running around. We didn’t make it to the corn maze, but hopefully we will next year!

Now if only the weather would start feeling a little more like fall, we could truly  get into the season!
