Our New Play-set

Jon finished this up last weekend, but I just got around to taking some good pictures of it today. Aedan has been using it so much! I think we pretty much lived outside all weekend.

_MG_7263

The bottom has a little door and lots of big windows. Aedan loves for either Jon or I to sit inside and then he will drive over in his jeep and pretend to order some food.

_MG_7261

The top has a steering wheel on one side and a telescope on the other. Both are big hits. Aedan also love to eat lunch up there. It is perfect because he can eat, wonder off and play and then eat again without worrying about Hiro finishing off his lunch.

_MG_7262

And the view from the edge of our porch. It is so fun to sit and watch Aedan play. I can’t wait to see both kids out there playing someday.

Next we want to fill in around it with mulch and make a more defined play area.

A Day in the Life

It has been awhile since I have done a day in the life post. A very long while actually…you can read my previous ones here and here.

I thought it would be fun to do one again. My days are still different depending on if I am seeing clients or not. This is a day that I see clients. Next week I will try to do a day when I just stay home.

6:00: Jon’s alarm goes off because he has to head into the office today. He only goes once a week or once ever other week (love the work from home position!). When he does go in, he likes to leave early to miss the traffic and get home earlier.

6:30: Jon’s out the door and I continue snoozing in bed. I tell myself I’ll get up at 7 and start getting ready before the kids get up. Ha!

7:05: Aedan comes in and tells me he sees “Pooper’s” (aka Cooper) car outside. I made the mistake of telling him, last night, his cousin is coming over for dinner and he is super excited. To bad he still has 12 hours to wait! I tell him it’s early and he needs to go read books in bed until his bunny gets up. He takes Hiro with him and actually stays in his room for the next 25 minutes. I should totally get out of bed, but I don’t. :)

7:30: Adelaide is waking up and Aedan’s bunny clock is awake so it’s officially time to get up. I get Aedan some milk and make Adelaide’s bottle.

8:00: Both kids have had breakfast and my oatmeal is just about ready. I eat oatmeal every.single.morning. After I eat, I get the kitchen cleaned up and then go make up the beds. I always make the beds. Always. It instantly makes the house feel cleaner. After the beds are made, I start a load of laundry. If I start one in the morning, I am pretty good about getting it folded and put away. If I wait until later in the day, I always forget about it.

9:00: Adelaide goes down for her first nap and Aedan gets to watch a TV show. He decides he wants to finish up Kung Fu Panda that he started the night before. I make a cup of coffee, check my email/blogs and then go get ready for the day.

10:30: I get Adelaide up early (she usually sleeps until 11/11:30) and we all head over to our playgroup. We meet every other week and it is so fun! So nice to hang out with some other moms and our kids get along really well.

12:30: We are back home. Adelaide goes down for her second nap (usually she goes down with Aedan at 1, but since I got her up early she is tired already). Aedan and I eat lunch and then he goes down for his nap at 1.

1:00: I start to get all my stuff together for work in the afternoon.

2:00: One of our babysitters comes over and I head out to Starbucks to get some work done before I have an overlap with a client and a new therapist.

3:30-5:15: Overlap with my client. Everything goes pretty well, I only got pinched once (by the kid, not the new therapist). :)

5:30: I get home. Jon is already home and Aedan and his sitter are playing outside. She goes home, Jon finishes up work, while I get Adelaide up from nap number three and feed her again. Then we all get ready to go see my sister & brother-in laws’ new house. They are building in a neighborhood exactly 5 minutes from us. So excited!

6:00: We check out their awesome house. Aedan and Cooper have a blast playing in the dirt and Adelaide has fun just being held. :)

7:00: Everyone comes over to our house for dinner. I made tortilla soup, which is crazy since it is April, but it has been a pretty chilly day. We eat while the boys play outside.

7:30: I feed Adelaide again and put her down for the night, then head back out to the living room to hang out with everyone. We have a great time catching up and Aedan has a great time playing outside with Cooper.

8:30: They head home, I finish cleaning up, while Jon gets Aedan ready for bed. I tuck him in around 8:45 and we read his favorite library book of the moment, I Want My TRUCK. It takes him awhile to fall asleep since he is still so wired from playing and staying up late, but eventually he is out.

9:00: Jon heads up to the bonus room to play on his Xbox and I take a shower. I never used to be a shower at night kind of person, but I kind of forced myself into the routine about a year ago since it cuts way down on the time it takes for me to get ready in the morning. Now I love it. Such a nice way to end the day.

10:00: One last look at emails and blogs. I watch a few YouTube videos and get ready for bed.

10:30: Jon and I are out for the night.

Finally Got Out the Good Camera – Adelaide

I finally got out my good camera that other day and took some pictures of Adelaide while Aedan was at school.  They came out really cute.

Then I thought this one looked a little like one of Aedan…

Next goal: get the good camera out when Aedan is home and try to get him to stay still enough to get some good pictures!

Our Weekend

We had a great weekend. The weather was perfect so we spent a lot of time outside.

Friday evening we did our typical run errands and go out to dinner. We did a little shopping at Costco and then grabbed burgers at Mighty Fine. We came home and played outside until we put the kids to bed. Once they were asleep, Jon and I watched Django Unchained. It was long, but pretty good.

Saturday morning after breakfast, we were back outside again. It was a little chilly but so fun to play outside and enjoy the morning.

20130420_083414

When Adelaide went down for her morning nap, I headed back to Costco to pick up a rug we had been eyeing for awhile. I loved the rug we had in the living room before, but it was just too small for our new living room. I have been wanting something bigger for awhile and we just couldn’t pass up the price of this one. It looks a little brown in the picture, but its actually more gray. Eventually we want to get a light gray sectional so I think it will look great. It is so soft too!

20130422_150415

We had a babysitter come over Saturday night and Jon and I went out to dinner at our old favorite place, Curras. It is close to our old house and we hadn’t been over there in forever. It was delicious and fun! We came home and watched the first episode of the new Netflix series, Hemlock Grove…creepy!

Sunday we basically did more of the same…relaxed around the house and played outside. During nap time I started making Adelaide some baby food. I gave her some sweet potatoes and apples over the weekend…so far she is not too impressed or interested. :)

20130420_090717

Sunday evening a couple of our good friends stopped by and we all went out to dinner. We had a lot of fun catching up and Aedan had a lot of fun showing off all his toys.

All in all, it was a fun family weekend!

Friday!

So glad its almost the weekend! The weather is supposed to be great so hopefully we will spend a lot of time outside.

  • Speaking of outside, Aedan’s play set is almost finished. Jon just has to attach the beam that holds the swings. It is so cute and Aedan loves it already. We are planning to make a mulch area all around the set, but that might be a few weeks down the road.

20130418_185808

  • This little one is going to start getting some solid foods this weekend. I have given her some baby oatmeal a couple of time in the past month, but she is not a fan. I don’t blame her, I wouldn’t want to eat it either. Aedan didn’t ever like oatmeal until we started mixing it with fruits. So this weekend we are going to try sweet potatoes and then next week we will try apples.

20130418_190723

  • This morning I took both kids by HEB to grab a few things and then we headed to the library. Aedan and I used to go to the library about once a week, but we honestly had not been since Adelaide was born. We just get so busy during the week with school, work and playdates. There was a preschool story time this morning, but it was right during Adelaide’s nap so we went afterward. Aedan had fun picking out some new books, and playing with the library toys. I know once school gets out, we will probably be at the library more frequently.  Any good toddler/preschool books you love that we should check out next time?

A Little of This and a Little of That

Jon got back from Amsterdam Saturday evening! We were so excited to have him home. Aedan was especially excited because he has been dying to open some boxes in the garage.

Earlier last week, I met up with Jon’s best friend to pick up a play set from Costco (thanks Aaron!!). We had been looking at a couple of different play sets on Costco’s website and almost ordered one a few weeks ago. I glad we didn’t because, last weekend we saw the one they keep in stock at the store was on sale for a great price. Jon and Aedan started working on it on Sunday…I’m not sure Aedan is actually help speed things along but he is loving all the “building” that is going on. I know he is going to love playing on it soon!

20130414_084234

Adelaide learned how to roll from her stomach to her back a few weeks ago. The only problem is she flips over and then gets stuck. Since she sleeps on her stomach this is not so great for naptime or night time. After a week of flipping her over at least once during each nap and once at night, I decided enough was enough. I got a couple of towels and wedged her in bed. So far so good. Occasionally she scoots herself forward enough and then flips over, but usually its only towards the end of nap or in the morning.

20130407_111121

Jon and I have been watching the new Vikings show on the History channel. Well, we watch it on the Xbox since we don’t have cable, but I think it airs on the History Channel. It is really good!

I picked up some new summer clothes for both kids last week. I got Adelaide a little skirt outfit and I just love it. I can’t believe I am going to be writing her 6 month update in just a couple of weeks!

20130413_154328

Oh and Aedan had his school pictures taken a couple of weeks ago. Oh my gosh, they are so cute! His teachers told me their photographer is good, but I can’t believe he got Aedan to pose the way he did. I will post them soon, but here is what Aedan does to me every time I try to take his picture…

20130413_154721

He is saying “no pictures Mommy! I’m cooking!” Oh, and yes that would be him in his underwear and a t-shirt. He hates wearing pants/shorts! Jon says it is because I let him wear a diaper and a t-shirt all the time when he was little…probably true. He will come in from playing outside and tell me he wants to take his shoes, socks and pants off. Ha!

Friday!

So glad it is Friday! Jon has been in Amsterdam all week and comes back tomorrow...yay!

We've had a pretty good week around here but I am ready to not be a single parent!

After nap time we were playing in the living room and I was trying to get a picture of Adelaide in the jumper a friend let me borrow. It went something like this...

And then I finally got one without Aedan jumping around in the background. Ha!

Our Weekend

We had a pretty laid back weekend.

Friday, we did our typical running errands and going out to eat. We decided to have Adelaide skip her evening catnap so we could get out the door earlier. Neither of my kids are much for sleeping in the car/carseat. Not sure if that’s a blessing or a curse. :) Either way, she got a little fussy before we got to the restaurant, but we ate outside and there was some live music going so she pretty much just zoned out. We paid for it the next day though, because she was cranky most of the day. Luckily she is back to normal now.

Aedan had a blast at the restaurant. When the band started playing, he immediately asked for his guitar. I’ve decided that three is a pretty fun age. Sure he has his moments, but it is so fun to do things with him and have full conversations now.

Saturday my parents came over for the day and Aedan had a blast. My dad set him up a little t-ball stand and showed him how to use a baseball bat. He loves it.

Sunday we pretty much just hung out at home. We finally broke down and invested in double stroller. I don’t go many places where I need a double stroller, but walking to our neighborhood parks pushing one kid and wearing the other was getting to be a pain. I don’t love the stroller, but for the price it fits our needs really well. We took advantage of the nice weather and took a walk before nap time and again after dinner. Love having parks in the neighborhood!!

I’m glad we got some outside play in over the weekend, since it is rainy and gloomy here now. Hopefully we will see some more spring weather soon!

Phone Pictures

I need to be better about getting my good camera out and taking some good pictures of both kids, but it is so easy to take pictures day to day with my phone.

Here are a few from my phone lately…

Easter baskets for Aedan and Adelaide. Aedan loves the Magna-doodle and Adelaide loves the carseat toy. So far she doesn’t seem too excited about the Sophie giraffe, not sure what all the hype about it is.

20130330_222105

Our neighbor’s boys hid some eggs for Aedan to find in our front yard. Such a fun surprise after naptime! One of the things I really wanted was for us to have good neighbors and we have been so blessed. We are surrounded by some great families!

20130325_153645

With the time change, we have been enjoying more evening walks. Aedan loves to “walk” Hiro. Sometimes Hiro will randomly stop because he sees Jon and I walking ahead and thinks no one is holding his lease (he will freeze if his lease is left unattended).

20130325_180313

We took the kids to the park last weekend and I put Adelaide in the swing for the first time. Obviously she was thrilled and pretty much can’t wait for her next swing experience. Ha!

20130330_124212

Here is a better one of her…she is so smiley most of the time (aka when mommy or daddy are present).

A Little Comparison

I was looking back at some of Aedan’s 6 month pictures and saw this one…

IMG_3187

Which reminded me a lot of this one…

_MG_7220

They definitely look pretty different to me, but they make so many of the same faces! It is so fun to compare.
