Best Laid Plans

Well, our week hasn’t gone as planned, unfortunately. Nothing horrible, just not as expected.

We made it to the splash pad Monday morning and on the way home Adelaide fell asleep in the car, which is something she never does. She seemed okay, but after her nap she woke up with a low fever. I had to cancel our plans to go to the Children’s Museum on Tuesday.

Then Tuesday morning she woke up with a little higher of a fever, but still not other symptoms. A little Motrin took the fever right down and she seemed fine. She even woke up from her nap on Tuesday and didn’t have a fever for the rest of the day. I went ahead and cancelled our Wednesday morning plans anyway since I didn’t want to spread any germs.

I thought we were in the clear and it was just a small virus or teething, but then she woke up Wednesday morning with a  fever again. I’m writing this as she is napping on Wednesday so I am hoping she makes a quick recovery, but I am thinking she is going to have to miss meet the teacher tomorrow (Thursday). So bummed.

So, instead of getting out and about this week, we have been doing a lot of playing at home and watching movies.

This guy couldn’t be happier. He would stay home 24/7 if he had the option!

I found him, after rest time, trying to tie himself up with a bungee cord.

This one on the other hand, has been asking to put shoes on and go in the “cars” pretty much all day. I went to a work out class last night and as soon as she saw me getting my socks on, she ran and go her shoes and socks. Poor thing. She is a little bored at home I guess.

Hopefully she can shake this virus soon and no one else gets it. I’m looking forward to a long weekend and then the first day of school next week!!

This is our last week of summer and we have a jam backed week. We are heading to a splash pad today and have fun plans tomorrow morning, plus a playgroup and meet the teacher towards the end of the week!

We have been doing a lot of swimming these past few weeks. Aedan is really doing well and Adelaide will finally wear the puddle jumper without a fight, which makes going to the pool much less crazy for me.

Aedan still loves to pretend to be a fireman. He borrowed this police helmet and belt from his sitter’s house and decided to combine it with his fireman gear. He has even told us he wants his birthday party at the fire station again.

I recently taught Aedan how to check the mail. He loves it! I drive up to our mailboxes and let him hop out on his own. He even keeps the mail key in the cup holder of his car seat. He knows how to find the mail box and unlock it. So far the only problem we have is that I tend to forget to check the mail, so it is usually stuffed full. I need to get him a little basket to fill up, so he doesn’t drop everything on the way to the car!

And of course I can’t leave out this girl. She is very into getting herself dressed. In fact it has become and all out battle to get shorts on her in the morning, because she thinks she can do it on her own. School mornings will be fun with her. Ha! Anyway, whenever I am putting laundry away, she is quick to steal whatever she can and try to put it own. This time it was 3 pair of my underwear.  She was very proud of herself for getting them own, but then got pretty frustrated when they fell straight off when she stood up!

Aedan got out his Buzz costume the other day and wore it for a little while. As soon as he took it off, Adelaide wanted it on.

My sister talked me into signing up for Snapchat. Still seems like the most ridiculous thing ever. She sends me stuff occasionally and when I remember, I send her pictures like this back. Just keeping it real!

4.5 Years Old

Aedan will be 4.5 in about a month. I haven’t done an update on him in a while, so I thought this would be a good time.

He is at such a fun age. Don’t get me wrong, he has his moments, but for the most part, he is fun to be with, and take places.

Aedan, here is what you have been up to lately…

  • You wake up between 7/7:30, but you are pretty good at staying in your room (or at least not coming into our room) until your bunny clock wakes up at 7:30.
  • You were napping from 1-3 everyday, but then a few weeks ago, you just stopped. You have napped a handful of times since then, but I think you are pretty much done with naps. I still have you do rest time every afternoon and you do a pretty good job of playing quietly in your room for 1.5-2 hours.
  • When you take a nap, bedtime is 8:30ish and you are usually up taking for a long time after that. On the no nap days, we try to have you in bed by 7:30 and you are usually out by 8.
  • You have become a much better eater these days. You don’t like chicken, but will at least try it and you will eat other meats. You actually finish most of your meals everyday which is a nice change.
  • You have such a huge imagination. You can seriously play with anything. You love to play with your Legos and sometimes will stay upstairs playing alone for 1+ hours at a time. You have gotten really into building with blocks lately too.
  • You still love to pretend to be a fireman. You pretend that the little shopping cart is your fire truck and you fill it with all sorts of equipment. You dress up in your hat, coat and boots all the time.
  • You are really good at watching out for Adelaide and helping her if she needs it. She is good at destroying your creations and getting into your stuff and sometimes you lose it with her, but most of the time I hear you ask her nicely to stop (although she doesn’t usually listen and I have to go help you out).
  • You start school in about 2 weeks and I still can’t get over the fact that this will be your last year before kindergarten. I am going to be a mess at this time next year!

Aedan, you are such a sweet and loving boy. You can be wild and crazy sometimes but you can also be so thoughtful and kind. You have grown into such a kid over the past year. I love all the conversations we have, and the stories you tell. You are our special little guy and we just love you so much! Love, your mommy.

Aedan loves to build things. A few weeks ago, we spent the day in Round Rock with my mom. I knew Aedan wouldn’t take a nap, so I had him do rest time in the “playroom”. This is what I found when I came to get him.

He built this fort all on his own. It has a front door (through the pillow and green chair) and a backdoor (under the desk).

Adelaide will finally let me put her hair in a ponytail. It is the cutest thing ever!

I ordered the kids backpacks for school and they came in last week. Aedan got a red one and Adelaide got a purple one. I didn’t think she would actually wear it, but she loves it! She asks to wear it all the time. I have a feeling once a lunch box is inside it may pull her backwards!

Summer is winding down. We only have 3 weeks left until school starts, which is crazy. I have to say, we have had a lot of fun this summer, but I am looking forward to more of a schedule and some breaks from the kids. It has been hot so we had an indoor picnic the other day. It was fun, although didn’t last long since Adelaide pretty much just fed her lunch to Hiro.

And last but not least, I think Aedan finished with his afternoon naps. I seriously wasn’t sure it would ever come, but a couple of weeks ago he stopped going to sleep at nap time. I still have him do a pretty strict rest time. He can have some toys but he has to stay in his room and play quietly. So far it has been going well. He tends to fall asleep a couple of times a week and I always find him on the floor!

A Weekend Away

A couple of months ago, my sister moved down to Houston for a new job.

This weekend I left the kids with Jon and went to visit her.

We had the best time and ate way too much food. Usually when we are together, we do a lot of shopping but I think what we did most this past weekend, was eat. Ha!

She lives in a very cool part of town and we were able to walk to brunch and dinner on Saturday.

We did a lot of exploring and got to check out the Bayou trails.

I told her I could get used to weekends like this…sleeping in, taking my time getting ready, going to brunch, laying around and watching TV until its time to get ready for dinner. It was nice.

We had a great weekend and it was nice to get away for a couple of days.

I got back Sunday afternoon and had a great evening with Jon and the kids. Turns out, I missed them more than I thought.

I’m already planning my next weekend away to see her again! For now, I am just going to try and eat less this week to make up for the weekend!

Thanks for having me Kymberly! I love you!
