Midweek Randomness

Goodness, where has the week gone? I can’t believe tomorrow will already be Thursday. I figured I should write a quick post so I don’t go a full week with nothing.
Highlights from the weekend:
  • Jon got home late late late Friday night. Aedan was so happy to see him Saturday morning!
  • Aedan and I helped my parents and grandmothers out with a garage sale on Saturday. Aedan had a blast running around rearranging things, pulling things out of boxes and playing with anything and everything covered in dust. We were both filthy when we left!
  • After the garage sale we met up with Jon for a birthday party for Aedan’s BFF. I wasn’t sure how Aedan would do without his morning nap, but he did great (with a quick snooze in the car) and had lots of fun.
Random thoughts/highlights from the week:
  • I upgraded my camera. Thanks Aaron! I have taken a few pictures, but I haven't had a chance have been too lazy to put them on my computer and edit them. Hopefully I’ll have a chance to play with it this weekend and have some good pictures to show soon.
  • Jon and I like to find TV show series to watch on Netflix and such. We started watching Sons of Anarchy a few months ago. I wasn’t too into it, but we just finished episode 6 and I am hooked. I’m guessing we finish season one by the end of the weekend.
  • Moms, when did you start giving your little ones a pillow to sleep with? I hadn’t really thought about it, but I just checked our video monitor and Aedan is using his stuffed animal as a pillow. Maybe he is trying to tell me something?
  • It is supposed to be 103 here for the next 4 days. Ugh. It is only June, I am not looking forward to August at all!! Aedan and I checked out a wadding pool not too far from our house on Tuesday, I am guessing we will be spending lots of time there this summer!
  • Today I finished up the progress report I have been working on for awhile. Now I just have to proof read it. I hate proof reading! I know some people love it, but I hate it. I just have no desire to reread everything I just wrote. Especially when it is 18 pages long. Sigh.
Looks like Jon has finished playing Xbox so hopefully I can talk him into another episode of Sons of Anarchy before bed!

Exploring the Garage

On Tuesday, Jon had to take my car into the dealership. I got an oil change about a week ago and ever since, we noticed a burning rubber smell every time we pulled it into the garage…never good.

While he was gone, Aedan and I decided to play in the garage. He did lots of exploring.

The bike pump…

The lawnmower…

_MG_5721

Daddy’s motorcycle…

_MG_5732

He also loves to park his popper toy like this. It cracks me up, he always leaves it standing up instead of just laying it on the floor.

_MG_5736

He leaves it parked and then turns around and runs back to it laughing, silly boy!

_MG_5737

Oh and of course I had him do a little manual labor, you know sweep to driveway and such. haha! Seriously though, I feel like he looks all grown up in this picture!

_MG_5738

Oh and apparently the guys that did my oil change, put the filter on wrong and my car was leaking oil all week, which is why it was smelling so bad. Luckily it was an easy fix and it is good to go now.

Snack Time = Kick Your Feet Up

A while ago we started to put Aedan’s highchair up to the table instead of using the tray. We have a space saver highchair that transitions into a booster seat. For now we just use the chair and put it up to the table, it works perfectly.

One afternoon we were having a snack and I looked over and saw this…

IMG_4634

Apparently afternoon snack is also a good time to kick back and enjoy a granola bar with your feet up on the table.

IMG_4636

I’m really not sure where he picked this up, good grief.

p.s. yes this happens to be another group of pants-less pictures, again right after nap time. I really need to get better about taking pictures at different times of the day!

p.s.s. since taking the pictures above as well as the ones in this post, I have cleaning my glass door. It looked great for about 1/2 a day, then it was covered with little finger prints (thanks Aedan) and wet nose prints (thanks Hiro).

Well It Finally Happened…

I knew this day was coming.

For months Aedan has hung out by the back door watching Hiro outside. Not only does he look out the window, he pushes on the doggie door too.

I knew it was only a matter of time before he figured out that Hiro was not the only one who could fit through the doggie door…

IMG_4641

“Hey Mommy, check it out, I got out by myself!”

IMG_4642

Sigh.

To recap: I need to go clean my glass door a.s.a.p.. Aedan does where shorts, I promise, but he had just gotten up from naptime and that’s how he rolls. Instead of telling him “no”, I immediately grab my camera and document the whole process, because that’s how I roll.

So far he hasn’t tried to go out again, but I know it will happen. Silly boy!

One Month

I can’t believe Aedan is already a month old!

IMG_2443

Aedan, here is what you have been up to:

  • You are weighing in at 10lbs and 9oz, which means you have packed on a little over 3lbs since we brought you home from the hospital! We had your 1 month check up today and the Dr. said you are doing great!
  • You wear size 1 in diapers and 0-3 month clothes fit you well (although pants and sleepers are still pretty long on you).
  • You LOVE to be held (in fact you usually hate it when we put you in your bouncer or swing)
  • You love to fall asleep on your daddy’s chest.
  • You like to lay on your tummy, especially on your play mat
  • You take most of your naps in your crib, and I think we are going to move you there for the nights very soon. You have a little bit of reflux so you prefer to sleep propped up.
  • You’re on a pretty good schedule: you wake up between 7 and 8 every morning, you usually take a short nap midmorning, then a long nap around lunch time, and a few short naps in the afternoon/early evening. We have a bedtime routine and you usually go to sleep between 8:30 and 9:30, then you wake up every 3-4 hours at night to eat.
  • You are doing great at nursing and you take a bottle just fine too (which means your daddy gets to help out with night feedings sometimes).
  • When you get upset (during diaper changes and after we get you out of your bath) we can calm you down with your pacifier. The only pacifier you will take is one we have that has a little frog attached. We named it Hurly and we take it everywhere.
  • You have already been to the Greenbelt 3 times and you LOVE to be outside.

We have had so much fun getting to know you and learning about your little personality. We can’t wait to watch you keep growing!

Pictures!

I’m finally getting around to posting some pictures of Aedan’s room. There are still a few things left that I want to do, but it’s just about there. IMG_2404

IMG_2412

I framed some big alphabet cards to hang on either side of the window.

Things I would still like to do: paint the little table by the chair red, get a floor lamp for behind the rocking chair, frame some newborn pictures to hang over the dresser and get some curtains. Hopefully I will find some time to get those things done in the next month or so. :)

Now for some pictures of Aedan!

Trying to get the hang of tummy time.

IMG_2388

So far so good.

IMG_2389

Not okay!

IMG_2393

Much better. :)

Looks like someone is just about to wake up. After we eat, we are headed out to the park to enjoy this beautiful day!

Happy Due Date Aedan

Today is Aedan’s official due date. I can’t believe it has already been 6 days since he arrived. I’m so glad he came when he did. Not only was I pretty sick of being pregnant, but he came at the beginning of my mom’s  (who is a middle school teacher) and sister’s spring break. It allowed my mom to spend most of the week here in Austin.

IMG_0693

Aedan has been a such a good baby. We are so in love! He has been sleeping and eating really well. I was expecting him to be bigger so most of his clothes are 0-3 months and they swallow him up. He has 6 little newborn sleepers so we have been rotating those and doing lots of laundry.

IMG_0701

Yesterday Aedan had his first sponge bath. He didn’t like it too much, poor baby!

Today went ventured out and ran some errands. It was nice to get out of the house. We went to Target, Costco and Buy Buy Baby. Aedan did really well. There were a few eating breaks but overall it was a very productive afternoon. On our way back home we stopped by the doctor’s office for a weight check. Aedan has gained 4oz since Tuesday, which brings him up to 7lbs and 5oz. :)

Class and Pictures

This morning Jon and I got up bright and early to go to our first childbirth class. It was pretty informative but some of the videos were pretty boring, especially the last one on breathing…I think Jon and I both may have dozed off during that one…opps.

When we got home we took Hiro out to play at the park. I decided to play around with my camera to take some pictures for my class. Here are a few that I like. These are all unedited (I’m working on getting the colors right when I take the picture instead of trying to edit it).

IMG_1964

I need to make my shutter speed faster on this one since Hiro is a little blurry.

Christmas Tour of Homes

Today I am on tour with The Nester’s Christmas Tour of Homes.

This year I didn’t do too much decorating, but in our small house I think a little bit is just enough.

Here is our Christmas tree

IMG_1844

Every year I like to pick out two coordinating wrapping paper prints. I love the look of these two simple prints. Since our presents usually get put in a bag and taken to one of our parents’ or grandparents’ house, traditional bows don’t work out well. This year I opted for simple ribbon to finish of my gift wrapping. I think it goes perfectly with the simple print of the paper.

IMG_1847

IMG_1845

I love displaying all the Christmas cards we get each year. I have tried a couple of things in the past, but earlier this year I made this simple message board and I thought it would be the perfect place for all the cards. I made it a little more festive by adding a big red bow to frame the board.

IMG_1839-1

These three cheery snowmen look great on our half wall between the kitchen and the living room.

IMG_1837

The last little bit of Christmas decor I put out this year is my Department 56 Snow Village collection. I’d like to continue to get more pieces, but I’m not sure where I would display them. This year we moved the sofa table that was on the wall with our Christmas tree, to the wall behind the couch. It is the perfect place for my snow village because all the cords are easily hidden and its not in the way at all.

So that’s our Christmas decor over here at the Dechiros. Thanks so much for stopping by! I love making new blog friends, so leave me a comment. :)
